Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Department of Neurology is a well-established clinic with a long tradition.  The first of our textbooks was published in 1979 under the editorship of our professor Nedim Zenbilci, titled Nervous System Diseases. There is no preface in this book, only a note of thanks to Ayşın Dervent, Esat Eşkazan, Ayhan Arguner and Güney Şenlen. The expanded 2nd edition of the same book was published in 1985 and the foreword was written by Nedim Zenbilci. In this preface, he  thanked to professors Fahrettin Kerim Gökay and Necmettin Polvan. The name of the Neurology Textbook was changed (it became Neurology Textbook) then and published in 1995. The editors of this book were Sibel Özekmekçi and Hülya Apaydın. The foreword was written by Hayrünissa Denktaş, the head of the department at that time. All of these books are single volumes and mainly addressed to medical students.

The increasing accumulation of knowledge in medicine has made the second and even third volumes of this third book compulsory. The target audience of the book has expanded to include physicians in neurology and psychiatry specialty training.  

This book covers  less common diseases of neurology. Inflammatory diseases of the nervous system, nerve and muscle diseases, metabolic neurologic diseases, neurooncology and neurorehabilitation are the chapters you can read in this section. In addition, an important topic is neurological emergencies.
