Social Work in Disasters

Health is defined by the World Health Organization as 'Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity'. Social health, one of the three pillars of health, appears with different definitions in the literature. In our opinion, one of these definitions, "the ability of an individual to live his life without needing anyone else", covers them all. Vulnerable individuals and groups, who need someone else to survive in normal situations and live as comfortably as possible, become more needy during disasters. However, individuals and groups who do not need anyone in normal situations need others during and after a disaster. Social work is a professional group that helps vulnerable individuals and groups in need, both in ordinary situations and during disasters. Social support assistance and organization such as search and rescue, medical rescue, first aid, emergency medicine and psychological support provided to individuals, as well as meeting the basic needs of individuals, include the basic steps of disaster management. This book has been prepared as a resource book that social work students can benefit from, as well as providing guidance to social workers who work or will work to meet the basic needs of individuals during disasters. The book "Social Work in Disasters", which is the first comprehensive disaster book on social medicine in our country, consists of 30 chapters written with the contributions of 30 authors: Disaster Information, Disaster Management, Medical Social Work and Biopsychosocial Approach in Disasters, Ethics in Disasters, Psychological First Aid in Disasters, Social Work in Disasters. , Disasters and Vulnerable Groups, Social Work Intervention for Children in Disasters, Disasters and the Elderly, Disasters and Women, Disaster and Disability, Disaster and Addiction, Disasters, Immigration, Refugee Problems, Poverty and Social Work in Disasters, Social Work Practices for Families in Disasters, Disasters Forensic Social Work, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Psycho-Social Health of Workers in Disasters, Legislation in Disasters, Crime and Guilt in Disasters, Anthropological Approach to Disaster(d)s.
