On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of our Republic, we prepared a book for pulmonary diseases within the scope of our lessons for our students, interns and residents. The book is written by our faculty members of the Pulmonary Diseases Department of Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine with the co-authorships of our brilliant former residents, now specialists of pulmonary diseases. We planned to make it available to our students and physicians who undergo pulmonary diseases speciality as a reference source.

The classical chapters of symptoms and physical examination, chest X-ray, pulmonary function tests, bronchoscopy and other invasive tests were written mainly from what we learned from our former professors and what we explained in the lessons under the guidance of some new papers.

Major respiratory diseases (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis, cyctic fibrosis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung abscess, parasitic lung diseases, pulmonary embolism,   primary pulmonary hypertension, pleural, mediastinal and diaphragmatic diseases, lung cancer, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, eosinophilic lung diseases, lungs in systemic diseases, respiratory failure, smoking and lung diseases, sleep apnea) that a pulmonologist should know were conveyed in the light of current guidelines, including our experiences. In addition, what a pulmonologist should know about our sub-division of immunology and allergy diseases, occupational diseases were included. Up-to-date information on preoperative evaluation and lung transplantation were also included in our book.

We hope that this book, which we have presented in thirty-four chapters, will be useful for our students, interns, residents and interested colleagues.
